4 Common Mistakes Tourists Make in Texas

Don’t make these common mistakes when you’re in Texas…

Have you ever been to Texas before? If so, then you already know how friendly and open-minded the majority of the folks living there are. Starting with people and all the landscape you’re going to see, everything seems marvelous about this state.

However, I’ve done my homework, and in today’s article, I am going to tell you about a couple of things that are considered common mistakes that tourists usually make when they visit Texas. I am not saying don’t mess with Texas; just be cautious. After all, every state and country has its own rules, even if they might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Don’t use your phone during a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse

I don’t mean to sound rude, but this should be a general rule in every theater or cinema! Established in 1997 in downtown Austin, the Alamo Drafthouse has sixteen locations around Texas and 10 more nationwide.

If you have ever been to one of their locations, then you probably know they have a couple of strict rules when you enter the theater: no talking, no texting on the phone, and by any chance you get there late… Sorry, but your ticket isn’t available anymore.

Never argue that tacos aren’t good in the morning

If you’re planning to visit Texas, you must try their Tex-Mex cuisine, especially the fabulous tacos. Get creative at locations like Taco Deli, where faves include the “Otto,” which is made of beans, cheese, avocado, and bacon. Add “Vaquero” to the list of new things to try, a meal that includes grilled corn, cheese, scrambled eggs, and roasted peppers. Yummy!

I hope you’re hungry in the morning because most Texans serve these mouthwatering foods for breakfast. And one of the most common mistakes tourists make is to refuse it! Oh my God, don’t do that. You won’t upset anybody, you will just miss the fun in life. And I bet you don’t want that! (hihi)

“Coke” isn’t only Coca-Cola

You will be surprised to know that in Texas when people say “coke,” they don’t refer only to Coca-Cola. This word applies to every carbonated beverage. A Texan expressing a desire for a “coke” is most likely referring to Dr. Pepper.

The soft drink was created by Charles Alderton in Waco, Texas, and it was first served in 1885—a fact that proud Texans will be the first to tell you came one year before Coca-Cola. And a personal opinion: Dr. Pepper is tastier than Coca-Cola!

Never skip the line at Franklin Barbecue

If you’re a tourist in Texas and you want to try their tasty, famous barbecue, stop at the Franklin Barbecue, but it’s important to note that you must be patient! Thousands of people wait in line to eat there, and it’s worth it. Bring a foldable chair, your hat, and some friends to keep you company.

Get there early to guarantee your place in line; the restaurant is open from 11 a.m. until it is sold out. One of the most common mistakes tourists make is to skip the line. Please don’t! You will upset some locals, and it won’t be nice. After all, nobody likes it when somebody steals their spot, especially if we’re talking about a huge line and tasty food.

Looking for a comfy portable chair to help you make the waiting more bearable? I have an awesome suggestion for you! Check out this portable camping chair from Amazon available for only $29.99.
